But, how far does our yearning for online adulation stem? What I cannot comprehend is when I’m at restaurants/bars and I see tables of people who are more concerned with documenting the fact they’re out “socialising” (to receive adulation from their online world) by taking photos on their smartphones, they then become so immersed in editing/uploading the photos to social media, that everyone at the table are on their phones and are not interacting. This completely contradicts the purpose of being at a restaurant/bar, proving that whilst social media makes you social online, it does the complete opposite offline. I have even walked past a young mother so engrossed in Facebook on her phone, that she hadn’t realised her young toddler had wandered off in another direction.
