Fashion and expressing yourself

Fashion as a way of expression

If everyone stops commenting on the choices of others, society will have on the whole more interestingly dressed people and probably ironically less people wearing hot pants, which may currently be considered sexual dress, to go and buy some milk and consequently less men criticising them for doing so. A more open and honest society would be created. This obviously doesn’t stay true for when people are required to wear a uniform. Often the people who aren’t expressing themselves are the ones doing the commenting.

Perhaps it is biased when this is coming from someone who enjoys getting dressed in the morning but it is baffling to me that not everyone would find joy in freedom of choice. People have to stop being put down for what they wear and society needs to realise that someone’s body and what they choose to wear is not to be desired or undesired by others – unless they want it to be. It is great for women to want to embrace the feeling of having someone look at you however it is important to not let this take over personal style and popular trends for example body-con dresses. Confident women are put down for having confidence and women lacking in confidence are put down too.
