Brit Awards 2015

The excitement for the annual pop music awards escalates as the nominees have finally been revealed

This year’s Brit Awards will be held at London’s O2 arena on the 25th of February and is bound to be pop music’s biggest night with several great acts already added to the line-up. It is a night where any nominee stands a chance to take home the famous Brit awards statuette, which this year has been re-designed by artist Tracey Emin. The trophy is a light pink colour and has a patchwork rosette pinned to the back as well as inspiring handwriting across the figurine to add a more personal touch to it and inspire the winner.

The ceremony will include live performances by Taylor Swift, Sam Smith, Paloma Faith, George Ezra and Royal Blood. James Corden will not be hosting the event this time but will be replaced by comedy duo Ant and Dec who last presented the ceremony 14 years ago. British singer-songwriter Sam Smith is currently leading the way with five award nominations while Ed Sheeran and George Ezra follow with four nominations each.

Sam Smith is currently up for best British male, breakthrough artist, best album, best British single and video of the year. Although unlikely, if you still have not heard of Sam Smith then you are missing out on a heart-rending soulful voice which exposes the depths and darkness of unrequited love. However his “In the Lonely Hour” album is not strictly melancholic, but rather powerful, an open diary that exposes real issues encountered by the artist during a particularly emotional stage of his life.

Another singer-songwriter who outperformed other artists with four nods for this year’s music ceremony is Ed Sheeran. The talented singer, who has topped UK charts several times and has sold out Wembley Stadium shows, has been nominated for best British male solo artist, British album of the year, best British single and video of the year. His nominations are not surprising as his album “X” turned out to be last year’s fastest selling album of the year with over 1,689,000 copies sold in the UK alone.

The past year has not only shown some great UK male contenders but has introduced an outstanding range of young and unique artists. These acts deserve to be recognised and rewarded for their incredible talent, thus if you would like to vote for one of them and show your support for British music then make sure you do so by heading on to the official site of the BRIT Awards 2015.
