With the common look from my hometown being big on the cheap, bronzer and two-sizes too small clothing, I stick out like, well, Elle Woods at Harvard. I walk around wearing clothes shipped in from America to avoid wearing the same as anyone else, then walk past four girls each wearing the exact same outfit regardless of whether or not it suits them. But not one of them seems fazed by blending into the crowd, looking like every other girl and having zero individuality… Of course then comes the stare, the looks of confusion from what I deemed to be a boring outfit earlier that morning.
Needless to say, I just don’t understand it, the need to dress like everyone else locally to “fit in.” With the casual glances and stares I don’t wear my white blazer that I LOVE as often as I should, so do other girls follow suit just to avoid people looking? You only need to watch Mean Girls once to know that everyone wears pink on Wednesday. But, we don’t live in a movie. People should be able to express themselves however they feel without stares from numerous people wearing ill-fitting clothing because everybody else is.
P.S. The local custom of cheap and see-through leggings is vulgar.
